What couriers will not carry — and why it costs you money

What 'restricted' actually means

A courier is not a public road. Every parcel passes through airport security scanners, hub X-ray machines, and trained cargo screeners. Some goods are illegal to move by air, some are illegal to move at all, and some need a permit or special packaging.

  • Prohibited — the carrier will never move it. Booking it is a contract breach.
  • Conditional — allowed only by surface, or with a declaration, or with a permit.
  • Penalty — seizure is charged to the shipper, not absorbed by the courier.
If you are unsure about a product, raise a support ticket with the product name before you book. Never guess the category — a wrong declaration moves the liability from the carrier to you.

Absolute no-ship list

These categories are refused by every carrier on our network. There is no packaging trick and no declaration form that makes them legal to move.

  • Arms, ammunition, explosives, and replica weapons
  • Chemicals, acids, insecticides, fertilisers, and industrial solvents
  • Fuels, camp-stove fuel, lantern oil, and heating elements
  • Restricted machinery — chainsaws, mining equipment, military or defence items
  • Toxins and biohazards — mercury, cyanide compounds, biological cultures
  • Currency, cheques, demand drafts, coins, and bearer instruments
  • Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide)
A single seized parcel can trigger a carrier-wide audit of your account. Repeat violations can suspend your shipping credits.

Conditional cargo you can still ship

These are legal but constrained. Our rate calculator removes Air automatically and keeps Surface available.

  • Lithium batteries and power banks — surface only (DGCA air cargo rule)
  • Perfumes, nail polish, aerosols, and alcohol-based cosmetics — surface only
  • Fragile glass and ceramics — surface or air, but declared and cushioned
  • High-value shipments above ₹50,000 — tamper-evident packing plus e-way bill

How Shiperon protects you at booking

The check runs when we price your shipment, not when the parcel reaches the airport. That is the difference between a warning and a loss.

  • Ineligible carriers are removed from the rate list with a written reason
  • Air is hidden for surface-only categories instead of failing later
  • A declaration is recorded against the order for dispute evidence
Declare the real category. A wrong declaration moves the liability from the carrier to you.

Let the booking screen enforce this for you

Every rule on this page runs inside the rate calculation. Carriers that cannot legally move your cargo are removed from the quote list, with the reason written next to them.
